Milpitas Unified School District’s Academic Performance Index (API) gains another 7 points, reaching 815! Congratulations to the students and staff of MUSD.

The California Department of Education recently released the 2008-09 Accountability Progress Report.  42% of all California schools are now at or above the statewide target API of 800.  In MUSD, 75% of our schools have API’s of 800 or higher.  Several schools made tremendous API gains from 2008 to 2009:  Burnett, 28 points, API 828; Curtner, 24 points, API 888; Rose, 30 points, API 818; Weller, 23 points, API 781; and Zanker, 25 points, API 871.

Under the federal No Child Left Behind accountability rules, schools and districts must make progress towards meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) criteria. The proficiency targets are increasing about 11% each year, with the goal that by 2014 all students will be proficient. District wide, we met AYP participation and proficiency criteria.  However, some of our student subgroups did not meet the proficiency targets in English and mathematics.  Similarly, the majority of MUSD schools met AYP criteria school wide, but some student subgroups did not meet the proficiency targets.

We will continue district efforts to address the needs of all students.  The District Strategic Plan provides our guiding principle: Close the achievement gap while improving academic achievement for ALL students.
