Each month a new episode of Spotlight on Milpitas Unified School District highlights many of the exciting events or programs that are happening throughout the district. One of the exciting elements of these programs are the segments that have been created by students.

September 2009
In this month's episode Superintendent Dr. Karl Black gives his annual Welcome Back speech. He introduces our Board Members as well as police and fire department personnel and highlights key topics that will be addressed this school year. Dr. Black also shares an inspirational story of how teachers affect the lives of students and a short video slide show is included.

October 2008
This episode spotlights the new Solar Energy Project. Students interview Dr. Black and MOT Director John Cimino regarding the project. Also slideshow of pictures from MUSD Unity Picnic.
November 2008
This months episode shows photos and video clips from several Halloween parades. Also, since report card time is near, a wonderful video on how to read with your children runs after the Halloween video.
December 2008
Dr. Black tells us about the upcoming solar ceremony and we view October's solar interviews as a review of what went into the project.
January 2009
The Solar Project Dedication Ceremony is highlighted in this month's epsiode. The president of Chevron Energy Solutions, Jim Davis, and the president of Banc of America Public Capital Corp., Linda Crothers, both spoke at the ceremony. Also attending were several representatives of some Senators and House Representatives. The Thomas Russell Middle School did an excellent job of hosting this event.
February 2009
Dr. Black starts this month's Spotlight with information on the budget crisis that is effecting our schools. School does go on, though, and so we highlighted Rose Elementary's chorus, which is managed by Michael Sommese. We also have some short clips from the Burnett Talent Show/Holiday performance and some photographs from our very successful Crabfeed.
March 2009
Sharkie went to SInnott Elementary School and visited Mrs. Hansen's class! There are some clips from that visit as well as some interviews. Also you will see some clips from a drama-thon that Russell hosted and you will hear Katie Martinez talk about Calaveras Hills High School and the awards it has recently received.
April 2009
Zanker Elementary School has a wonderful program that raises awareness on how important it is to attend college. This Spotlight will feature some final presentations from that, as well as some highlights from the English Language Learner Celebration that was held.
May 2009
Calaveras Hills High School runs an amazing mentoring program called Out to Lunch. See what it's all about here. Also featured is Spangler Elementary School. It's so important for today's students to effectively learn how to use technology in ways that will benefit them in the future. Spangler shows off what they have done.
June 2009
Our staff members of the year and retirees were honored in a celebration. Check out some photos in this month's Spotlight. Also, Kathy Doi will provided some information on the Every Student Succeeding Awards. And, to wrap up Spotlight, Mindy Bolar will take you inside the O Ambassadors at Rose Elementary. The O Ambassadors is a club sponsored by Free the Children and Oprah Winfrey.
