Parent Guides

Dear Parents and Families:

Welcome to what promises to be a very exciting and educationally enriching year for our Milpitas Unified School District students. This parent guide has been prepared to help you understand what your child will be learning this year and how your child’s teacher will be providing you with feedback on his/her progress.

Our primary goal, as a district, is student achievement. We have a strong academic focus that is based on the California State Content Standards. The standards direct what will be taught and assessed in your child’s classroom. The grade-level standards that your child needs to master by year-end are included in this guide. You will be updated on your child’s progress towards meeting these content standards on our standards-based report card. This report card is designed to provide you with a clear, detailed picture of your child’s academic growth.

Your help is essential in the educational process. When parents and schools work together as partners in a child’s education, the child’s learning is enhanced. Please talk with your child’s teacher and administrators about what your child will be learning, how he/she will be assessed, and how his/her progress will be reported to you. Ask questions! Attend parent/teacher conferences. Be active and visible participants in your child’s education. Imagine how much your child can accomplish when we work together as a team.

I wish you and your child a year filled with opportunities for growth and success.

Sincerely,
Karl N. Black, Ed.D.
Superintendent
